GYUDON

FEEDS 2-3 PEOPLE
A mildly sweet Japanese dish served over fluffy rice topped with a poached egg and spices
EST. COOK TIME 35-40 MINUTES
WHAT'S INSIDE:

3 Cloves of Garlic
1/4 Cup Low Sodium Shoyu
(Soy Sauce)
2 TBSP Sesame Oil
Beef Chuck Rolls
(Costco)
Brown Egg (1 Per Serving)
1/4 Cup Cooking Sake

1 Inch Grated Ginger
1/2 White Onion Julienned
Green Onion

1/4 Cup Mirin

1 1/2 TBSP Hondashi Flakes
SPICES:
1 TSP Black Pepper
1 TSP Sugar
1/2 TSP MSG
Salt to Taste
HOW TO MAKE IT:
1. Start by washing and soaking your rice for 10 minutes before cooking. As the rice begins to cook finely dice three cloves of garlic and grate 1 inch of ginger.
2. Julienne 1/2 a white onion. To a hot pan, lightly add choice of oil. Combine the grated ginger, minced garlic and onion, with black pepper and salt to taste. Other vegetables can be added, in this case left over Napa cabbage.

3. As that becomes fragrant, combine the hondashi, sake, mirin, shoyu, and sesame oil. Next add sugar and a touch of msg for extra flavor.
4. Stir and cook down the onions for another 3 minutes. Then add in your choice of meat or protein. For this recipe I will be using the Costco Beef Chuck Rolls. Let that cook all the way through. Simmering for 5-7 minutes or until the sauce becomes thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
5. In a pot bring water to just before a boil. Using a spoon mix the water in a smooth circle before adding in one egg. Let that cook for 3 minutes, or until desired consistency of yolk.
6. Scoop rice into a bowl and top with Japanese Furikake (optional). Add the meat and vegetable mixture. Gently place the poached egg on top and garnish with green onion. You can also add in Japanese pepper powder for more flavor.
